New allergy safety training available for schools

localmedic can now deliver a regulated allergy and anaphylaxis qualification supporting schools with new statutory allergy safety requirements.

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness (RQF) is designed for staff, governors and volunteers working in schools and educational settings.

The qualification supports the Department for Education’s new statutory ‘Allergy safety in schools guidance’, which requires schools to strengthen allergy management arrangements, including staff training.

Parents need to know that the people caring for their child understand the risks, can recognise when something is wrong and know how to deal with it. The addition of this qualification, specifically developed around allergy safety, will give staff the knowledge to recognise allergic reactions, and respond appropriately to them.”

New statutory guidance from July 2026

The Department for Education published its Allergy safety in schools statutory guidance on 6 July 2026. It applies to schools in England and sets out measures including:

• creating and publishing an allergy safety policy,
• putting allergy safety training in place for all staff,
• identifying children who require Individual Healthcare Plans,
• maintaining appropriate arrangements around emergency medication, and
• recording and learning from serious incidents and near misses.

These requirements come from Section 34 of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 introduced specific allergy safety provisions for schools. It requires schools to have an allergy safety policy and review it at least annually.

Face-to-face RQF qualification that meets statutory guidance

The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Allergy and Anaphylaxis Awareness (RQF) is a two-hour regulated qualification covering:

• allergy planning and management,
• recognition and severity of allergic reactions,
• food allergy and major allergens,
• prescribed and spare emergency medication,
• recognition and management of anaphylaxis and asthma,
• the impact of allergy on a child’s wellbeing, and
• reporting and recording serious incidents and near misses.
