What you'll learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to recognise adult cardiac arrest, start effective CPR and use an AED safely and confidently.

Recognising cardiac arrest

Identify when an adult is unresponsive and not breathing normally, and needs immediate life support.

Adult CPR technique

Perform chest compressions and rescue breaths on an adult manikin to current Resuscitation Council UK standards.

Safe AED use

Operate an Automated External Defibrillator, attach pads correctly and follow voice prompts safely.

Unresponsive but breathing casualties

Place an unresponsive but breathing adult into the recovery position and monitor them until help arrives.

Managing the scene

Assess the situation, call 999 promptly and coordinate others to fetch the AED and support the response.

Post‑incident considerations

Understand basic reporting, equipment checks and the importance of debrief and support after a resuscitation attempt.

    Who is this course for?

    This course is designed for staff who may be the first to respond to an adult cardiac arrest at work or in the community.
