What you'll learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to recognise adult deterioration and cardiac arrest and deliver basic life support appropriate to your role and setting.

Adult life support in context

Understand how BLS fits into your organisation’s resuscitation policy and wider clinical governance framework.

Recognition of deterioration and cardiac arrest

Identify signs of clinical deterioration and recognise adult cardiac arrest promptly.

Adult CPR and AED skills

Practise high‑quality adult CPR and safe AED use to Resuscitation Council UK standards.

Airway management at BLS level

Use simple airway manoeuvres and adjuncts within your scope of practice to maintain a patent airway.

Team working in resuscitation

Work effectively as part of a resuscitation team, following local escalation pathways and roles.

Post‑resuscitation communication

Contribute to handover, documentation and basic debrief processes after resuscitation attempts.
